This is the part where they see if you can figure things out on your own. They won't hold your hand through this in college either — so start showing you're coachable now. Go find the vets. Copy what they actually wear, do, and look like.

The questions to actually answer

Most teams wear tennis shoes or jazz shoes — but some programs, like TCU, wear boots. Always confirm rather than assume, especially if a school's style is unusual.
Some teams wear tights, some don't. If yours does, figure out footed vs. non-footed — Diva Hosiery is a solid, reliable brand if you need to order a pair.
Usually a two-piece — shorts and a sports bra. Custom rhinestoned sets are common too. Go research what the team actually does first — then have fun and express yourself within that. If it's a school like ASU where everyone wears all black at auditions, great — wear all black. But you can still stand out inside that: love long sleeves? Do it. Look better in something with a cut-out back? Go for it — as long as it's allowed. It never hurts to double check first.
Whatever you choose, it needs to actually work on your body under real movement, not just look good standing still.
This is one of those small details that's easy to skip and easy to get right. Match the exact style you see on current vets, not just "wear earrings."
Test it before audition day
Do a full run-through in it — do your shorts stay put, or ride up?
If you're bigger chested — does everything stay secure through jumps and turns?
Does it actually fit and move well on your body — not just how it looked on the vet you saw wearing it?
Same outfit. Same hair. Same everything. Every single day.
Almost every audition runs multiple days — and unless a coach tells you otherwise, your look doesn't change, start to finish. There are hundreds of you and only 3–5 of them. Don't confuse a judge about who you are by showing up different halfway through. Look exactly the same every day, so they know exactly who they're watching.

Custom, rental, or DIY

Custom audition outfits and — this is the one to know about — rentals. Renting typically runs about a third of the cost of buying custom, and you just send it back when you're done. A genuinely great option if you don't want to spend hundreds on an outfit you'll wear a handful of times.
Want to DIY it? You can order a plain matching set online and rhinestone it yourself with a bulk rhinestone kit and jewelry glue — everything you need usually comes in one order.
This route takes more time and effort than renting, but it's the most budget-friendly if you're comfortable doing the bedazzling by hand.

Regardless of a specific team's exact look, the baseline is the same everywhere: more makeup than you'd wear day to day, bigger hair than you'd normally do. Under stage lights, "natural" reads as washed out. This isn't about changing who you are — it's matching the scale of the room you're about to be in.

Not a posed photo — actual game day or performance footage of current vets, where you can see their real look under real lights.
Study the specifics
Hair up or down? Curled or straight? Bold lip or neutral? Heavy contour or soft glam? Write down exactly what you see, not your general impression.
